Reviews

This coloring book offers a nice selection of designs, which overall have a sort of stained glass aesthetic to them. Some of the designs are more complex, with intricate cityscapes as backgrounds for the birds or with an almost MC Escher-like style of repeating patterns. Others are more simple, featuring a more close-up portrait style for certain birds centered in less elaborate landscapes. This range of levels makes this the kind of book that would be accessible for all ages. Another nice feature is that the images are only printed on one side of each page, so you don't have to worry about your colors bleeding through, and if you want to remove pages to mount anywhere you won't have choose between images. There are a few designs in this collection that are a little hokey for my taste (like the one with an eagle with wings spread, flying in front of a Mack truck -- rolls eyes, pantomimes barfing complete with sound effects). And, as far as I can tell there is nowhere in the book that tells you what kind of bird is on each page (some are obvious-- like the aforementioned hokey eagle-- but not all) or which locations they are in (again, some are obvious-- cough, cough Statue of Liberty with a pigeon... at least it wasn't an eagle?-- but others aren't necessarily clear), which would be nice for those of us who want to color the birds and landmarks authentically. But, these are relatively minor details that certainly don't impede one's ability to zone out and color, and all in all this is a pretty fun coloring book.Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
